The Pearl and Julius Young Rising Stars Music Competition

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey is pleased to announce the 2012 Pearl and Julius Young Rising Stars Music Competition for young instrumental artists. 

First Prize is $1000.   The First Prize winner will perform a concerto movement at the BONJ Summer Music Festival, August 2012.   Second prize is $500.  Third prize is $250.  Two $100 honorable mention prizes will be awarded.   Judges will include principal musicians from the orchestra and guest artists.

 

The competition is open to instrumentalists ages 16-22.   Ten finalists chosen from the applicants  will perform at Dolan Performance Hall, The College of Saint Elizabeth, on Saturday, March 10, 2012, 10:00 AM.-3:00 PM.   Finalists may perform with their own pianist or with a pianist provided by the orchestra. Finalists must perform one movement from a concerto from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Modern eras.

Please print and  fill out the application and mail with a check for the non-refundable application fee of $25 and mail to Lisa Young, Chairperson, 24 Edgar Road, West Orange, New Jersey, 07052.    Please include a brief biography or resume, a reference and a CD, DVD or video of you in performance.  All applications must be received by January 9, 2012.   Finalists will be notified by January 20, 2012.

Come join us and see the young orchestral stars of the future.  Young instrumentalists between the ages of 16 and 22, will perform classical selections.  First prize winner will receive $1000 and will be featured at a future BONJ concert.  The second prize winner will receive $500, the third prize winner will receive $250, and there will be 2 honorable mention prizes of $100 each.  Winners will be selected by a panel of 3 distinguished judges.
